The ‘ELPIDA Association of Friends of Children with Cancer’ was once again on the front line, contributing to and supporting those in need. With the initiative of its President Mrs Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, the Association has already sent necessities to the citizens of Thessaly who were struck by storm Ianos.
From the first moment of the storm that caused biblical destruction in Thessaly, Mrs Vardinoyannis was in contact with the Governor, Mr Kostas Agorastos, as well as local agencies, assuring them that she is at their side.
With the support of the Board Members of the ‘ELPIDA’ Association and companies that rushed to support the initiative, items were sent to cover the needs of the citizens of Thessaly who saw their homes and property destroyed from one moment to the next.
“I am thinking of you and I want you to know that I am at your side. We all feel for you. I try to always be there, during all the difficult moments Greece faces. If each of us can help, we should do so, and we must raise awareness in others to do so. I hope things go better. I am at your side, near you, and I send you my love”, said Mrs Vardinoyannis in a telephone conversation she had with the Governor, Mr Agorastos.
“The ELPIDA Association and President Marianna Vardinoyannis, who inspires social values and humanitarian ideals, helped us of her own accord, and was at the side of the people from the very first moment, and I would like to thank her on behalf of all those who will feel her benefice. At the same time, this action is a symbol of solidarity, an action of love, it bears the strength of humanity and gives us the courage to face these difficult times”, stated the Governor of Thessaly, Mr Kostas Agorastos.
On his side, Deputy Governor Mr Konstantinos Nousios stated: “The struggle is great. We help where we can. Today we accept the noble contribution of the ‘ELPIDA’ Association and Mrs Marianna Vardinoyannis, who is showing solidarity to her fellow people. We accept these things with great joy. We thank Mrs Vardinoyannis and the Association. They will be distributed to the people who need them”.
The Mayor of Karditsa Mr Vassilis Tsiakos stressed: “The help we are receiving is moving. One such example is that by Mrs Vardinoyannis and ELPIDA. We thank her, because this contribution will make a difference. The Municipality of Karditsa has 150 people with no home. Such actions make us stronger and help us say that there is hope to make our city a better place than before”.
Mr Fanis Stathis, Mayor of Mouzaki, the region that faced the brunt of the destruction, stated emotionally: “I am greatly moved. People’s support is great and we would like to thank them for their support. A great “thank you” to ELPIDA and Mrs Vardinoyannis, who called me during those days of destruction, offered her support, and wished us strength; and we should also say a great “thank you” today, for the material aid she has sent us”.
It should be noted that the ‘ELPIDA’ Association, in the framework of supporting of our fellow citizens who were hit hard by the storm ‘Ianos’, supported both Karditsa and Kefalonia.
