Through its Social Service housed on the ground floor of the Children’s Oncology Unit, the ELPIDA Association supports the children and their families with care, knowledge and love, throughout the duration of their hospitalisation. Care never stops. We are always there for anyone who needs us.

The Social Service is there for you every day on the ground floor of building E.

You can visit us at the ELPIDA Social Service office, contact us at 210 7757934 (ext. 4) or email us at [email protected]

Psychosocial support of children hospitalised in the Oncology Unit, as well as of their families, is to us one of the most essential initiatives for strengthening their emotional stability.  For this reason, we initiated interventions within the Clinics with the aim of embracing all of the children.

The intervention and support areas cover the whole course of a child’s hospitalisation and are part of the Clinics’ interdisciplinary teams.

Social Fund

Since 2012, ELPIDA has provided financial support for children with cancer and their families through the Social Fund.

The Social Fund is a programme that was created to provide solutions to financial problems faced by the families of hospitalised children. Problems such as housing, food and heating are our priorities. This programme can also cover expenses for special treatments provided outside the hospital or for transporting the children; expenses that are certainly a significant financial burden for families.

You can contact the ELPIDA Association Social Service or a Social Worker at your Clinic about this. The competent ELPIDA committee, considering each family individually and with sensitivity, tries to cover a large portion of these needs.

Welcome Kit

Through its Social Service, the ELPIDA Association welcomes families with care and warmth. In the “welcoming of the child and the family,” you are provided with useful information on hospitalisation and you are offered a gift kit with toys for the child and useful items for you.

Information Centre

The Information Centre is the service aimed at informing you about legislation, benefits, the rights of children who are or have in the past been hospitalised in the Oncology Unit.
The Information Centre has on file all of the recent legislative decisions and provisions you need to know about:

  • Financial Benefits, Insurance Fund Benefits & Emergency Measures for Financial Support from public agencies.
  • Education
  • Legislation on foreigners
  • Military Service

Recreation

Multi-space Library

This space was created for parents and children who experience difficulties on a daily basis and need to find ways to relax and enjoy themselves. It is on the ground floor of building E and, apart from library services and a reading room, it provides a number of activities for families. Seminars, educational programmes and arts and crafts activities are just a few of the activities we offer.

On certain days of the week, book carts from our Library visit all of the Unit’s clinics, with the assistance of ELPIDA volunteers.

Cinema

Two afternoons a week, the Library’s Multi-space is transformed into a cinema room for showing movies for children and adults. And of course there is Pop Corn and refreshments, just like at a real cinema.

This gives our children the opportunity to travel to magic worlds, escaping from the day-to-day reality of hospitalisation.

The equipment in the cinema room was a gift from ELPIDA JUNIOR, and specifically from the Athens College Elementary School.

Events

Throughout the year, the ELPIDA Association organizes events for children and their families at the Oncology Unit, in an effort to offer optimism and joy to everyone. All of the events and visits are posted ahead of time on the announcement boards of each department, so that children and parents can participate.

If you are a parent or a child and you want to be notified of our events, please fill out the form below

“ELPIDA” volunteers are active in various sectors, including participation in the activities of the Oncology Unit. Our volunteers are sensitive, love children, and are dedicated to their role.
