A unique motorized experience in Porsche cars for the children of the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA Children’s Oncology Unit and the children of the ELPIDA Guest House, during the last weekend of September 2019.
The Drive for Miles NGO was responsible for this initiative involving a convoy of Porsche cars, which started out from Luxembourg on September 25th, 2019 and ended up in Athens on September 28th, 2019, after crossing 3000 km, where they visited the Children’s Oncology Unit, offering the children a unique experience. In the courtyard of the Hospital, the children were photographed in impressive Porsche cars, asked questions about them and enjoyed rides with experienced drivers.
The next day was also dedicated to the children of ELPIDA, since the 46 Porsche cars remained parked in front of the hospitable NJV ATHENS PLAZA hotel in Syntagma square. After they enjoyed a beautiful morning, the children and their parents rode the Porsche of their choice and took off on a ride along the Athens coast, making a first stop in the Club Sport in Koropi. There they had the opportunity to admire the exhibition of historical Porsche cars.
After that, the children had the option of choosing a different car for the second part of the ride, the destination this time being the Vorres Museum. There, they were taken on a tour of the exhibits, and then had lunch in the beautiful garden of the Museum, to the accompaniment of music.
A highly moving moment was when Dr Florian Betzelr, who is an ironman triathlon champion, after arriving on bike from Hamburg to Athens, offered his bicycle to the children of ELPIDA.
It is worth noting that this activity took place in the framework of Convoy 2 East, with the purpose of supporting the ELPIDA children in Greece, as well as sick children in Turkey. This action, led by Annik Paquay, President of the Drive for Miles NOG and Guy Flener, President of the Drive for Miles Luxembourg, was given the name WITH CISCO ON A GOOD RIDE.
We need to warmly thank the organiser Drive for Miles, and particularly its President, Annik Paquay, for this entire heart-warming initiative, which gave the children and their families hours of carefree enjoyment, as well as: Mr. Dimitris Dimokas, President, and the members of the Porsche club HELLAS, the Municipality of Athens, Cisco, Athens Road Traffic Policy, NJV ATHENS PLAZA, V&R, Vorres Museum.
