Τhe "Cirque du Soleil" an ally in the battle being waged by "ELPIDA"

On Wednesday evening, 5 September 2012, the world famous Cirque du Soleil had audiences both young and old who packed the indoor basketball court of the Olympic Athletic Center in Athens glued to their seats , with their breathtaking acrobatics, exquisite choreography, aerial stage, magnificent, imposing scenery and costumes, visual effects and entrancing live music and songs as well as the comedy sketches that had the audience in stitches.

But on Wednesday evening the audience's prolonged and enthusiastic applause was not reserved solely for the magnificent Alegria performance by the Cirque du Soleil but also for the "ELPIDA" Association of Friends of Children with Cancer to which the proceeds from last night's performance will be donated for the creation of a "Volunteer Bone Marrow Donor Registry" that will operate in the "Marianna V. Vardioyannis-ELPIDA Children's Oncology Unit.

The magic of the circus in total harmony with dance, opera, mime, the art of the clowns, athleticism and acrobatics, captivated over 7000 spectators and mostly the children from Attica institutions, children and their parents from various parishes in the diocese of Nikea   (Keratsini, Korydallos, Perama, Aegaleo, Chaidari, Nikaia and Aghia Varvara), children and their parents who are staying at the "ELPIDA" Guest House as well as children who are undergoing treatment at the Oncology Hospital which the President of the "ELPIDA" Association, Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, personally invited to give them the chance to enjoy this unique spectacle free of charge.

Mrs. Vardinoyannis, who was present at last night's performance herself, at the end of the show remarked how deeply moved she was that for one more time even amid these difficult times for all, people responded to the "ELPIDA" invitation and turned up to support its work with their presence.

Also present at yesterday's performance was the wife of the Prime Minister Mrs. Georgia Samaras, who is a member of the board of "ELPIDA" and supports its work and the "ELPIDA" Messenger of Hope (Elpida) Sakis Rouvas with his wife Katia Zygouli, who always express their love for sick children in the most moving way.

The audience also included the Minister of Health, Mr. Andreas Lykourentzos and his wife, the Ambassadors of the United States, Canada, Great Britan, France, Japan, Australia, Argentina, Egypt, Turkey and Azerbaijan, the Mayor of Athens Mr. Giorgos Kaminis and his wife, Mr. Giorgos Vardinoyannis, Professor Aris Antsaklis with his wife, the Director of the National Gallery Mrs. Marina Lambraki Plaka, many members of the business and publishing worlds, many members of the "ELPIDA" Association and many many others.
