Visit by the AEK F.C. to the Children's Oncology Unit

On Wednesday 16 February 2011 all the player of the AEK football club, their coach Manolo Jimenez and the President of AEK F.C. Mr. Stavros Adamidis visited the 110 children who are undergoing treatment at the "Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA" Children's Oncology Unit.

The President of the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer "ELPIDA", Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis and the Administrative Director of the "Aghia Sophia" Children's Hospital Dr. Emmanouil Papasavvas were there to greet them and show them around the wards and other areas of the Oncology Unit where they stayed for a long time with the children distributing presents, signing autographs and taking commemorative pictures.

The President of the AEK F.C. Mr. Stavros Adamidis stated:   "AEK has always been a team with a continuous involvement in cultural and social work.   We want to be at the side of these children who are fighting for their life and we will be here for whatever they need."

Speaking on behalf of the players Traianos Dellas said:   "It's the least we can do for the children who are waging a very important battle here.   I want to wish them health and with God's help may they overcome all their problems.   To their families I say "Courage".   It is very important that such hospital facilities exist and I would like to congratulate Mrs. Marianna Vardinogiannis for taking care of it."

The AEK players also offered Mrs. Vardinoyannis an AEK jersey and a football, both with their signatures.

Mrs. Vardinoyannis thanked them and congratulated them for the extraordinary example of social awareness they have set with this visit of theirs, saying: "Your presence in our hospital gives us great pleasure and particularly to the children who are waging a tough battle for their life.   By being here you give them strength and the courage to continue their fight.   You provide an excellent example of decency and social solidarity which is especially symbolic at this time since it coincides with yesterday's International Childhood Cancer Day.   Your support gives us the courage to continue with our work, having at our side yet another great ally: The AEK F.C.   Thank you very much and I wish you health and many successes!"
