"ELPIDA" European Awards
The idea for establishing the “ELPIDA” European Awards” arose out of the European Conference entitled “Europe with a human face – Help to the Sick Child” organized by “ELPIDA” in March 1994. The awards are presented every four years to individuals and organizations that deal with the problems of children who suffer from cancer while, at the same time, “ELPIDA” is working on an international level in order to set the foundations for a collaboration of all NGOs that focus on cancer. The “ELPIDA” European Awards” were presented by the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Constantinos Stefanopoulos.

1st Awards Ceremony March 1996
1st Prize: Giuseppe Masera, Director of the San Gernado Hospital Pediatric Hematology Center
2nd Prize: G.K. Wiersma, psychological support group Clinicowns Holland
Honoris causa Award: Gill Denne, Childhood Cancer and Leukemia Link – Call, England
2nd Awards Ceremony February 2001
1st Prize: Herbert Jurgens, professor, Director of the Padiatriche Haematologie Onkologie, Munster, Germany
2nd Prize: Dr. Christine Janin, founder of the “A chacun son Everest” Association
3rd Prize: Irene Archontaki, in whose face were honored all the mothers who have stayed at the Guest House to date and support their children in the fight they are waging
Honoris causa Award: Ted Kennedy, Jr. for his activities on matters of hospitals and those suffering from severe illnesses.
Honorary distinction: Stelios Grafakos, Director Bone Marrow Transplant Unit – Hematologist
